KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Niber Technologies and BASF are partnering to develop next-generation electrospun membranes.

Niber Technologies, a materials science company focused on electrospun nanofiber membranes, has announced a new partnership with BASF to strengthen research and development in electrospinning and encourage product innovation in textiles and functional materials.

Niber’s electrospinning platform combined with BASF’s chemical expertise, advances the development of breathable, lightweight, and PFAS-free materials.

The collaboration aims to promote deeper technical cooperation and joint development efforts. It combines Niber’s proprietary electrospinning platform with BASF’s advanced chemical expertise and material solutions. Through this partnership, both companies plan to develop next-generation membranes and functional surfaces that can be used not only in apparel but also in wider industrial applications. These materials are expected to offer improved breathability, lightweight performance and efficient use of resources.

Early-stage trials show strong durability and improved material consistency for apparel and industrial applications.

As part of the initiative, Niber is currently working on commercialising electrospinning processes using BASF’s Freeflex 1895A polymers. Early-stage trials have shown promising results, including strong durability and improved material consistency.

“This initiative allows us to work more closely with BASF at a technical level,” said Dr. Richard Beck, President of Niber Technologies as well as business leader at W. L. Gore & Associates. “BASF brings extensive chemical knowledge, and when combined with our electrospinning platform, it creates new opportunities to develop material systems that enhance performance, sustainability and scalability.”

Niber Technologies has developed a multi-polymer electrospinning method to produce highly breathable membranes without the intentional use of PFAS in technical textiles and emerging industrial sectors. This approach supports growing demand for safer and more environmentally responsible materials.
